The choir chickened out of singing Cavalli's
Salve Regina (
audio clip) during the offertory this morning. It was a little rough during rehearsal before mass, or as one soprano said, "pretty, but not solid". So we did a last minute substitution of
Palestrina's
Laude Sion Salvatorem (
score;
midi)
which was familiar to most choir members (except me and two other newbies.)
During communion, we sang the achingly beautiful
In Paradisum by Durufle (
Real Audio).
Our
choir leader and organist has been playing his scary Hallowe'en/All Souls music the past few Sundays for the Postlude. Today he outdid himself with
Marcel Dupre's Le Tombeau de Titelouze.
