Ten for Tuesday

Media_httprootsandrin_aldio

This is my first time participating in this little "get to know me" quiz from Roots and Rings.  Go over there to meet some more people!

1.  What are you going to be for Halloween?
I'll be locked in my bedroom with the dog.  He goes mental when he hears the doorbell.

2. Have you ever been on television?
Nope, not that I know of, at least!
3. Do you have a toilet paper preference?
The flap should hang down over the top.  Otherwise, I'd like a few ply (more than one).  White.
4. When you’re pregnant, will you find out the sex of the baby? (Or if you’ve already had babies, did you find out the sex?) Why or why not?
I did not find out the sex of either of my boys.  I figure it's one of the last surprises left in life, and it's one of the best!
5. What are three items that every kitchen must have?
A good knife, a heavy bottomed not non-stick saute pan, and teenaged boy(s) to do the dishes.

6. Do you enjoy Christmas shopping?
Yes, to a point.  I love buying for the women in my life, and anyone else who has a CLUE what they want.  My husband, my brother-in-law? Not so much.  (My brother is an honourary woman here...he always has a list!)
7. What is your go-to recipe? (The thing you cook more than anything else because it’s easy and mindless.) Please share the recipe.
Pasta with homemade tomato sauce, using my home ground sausage that I usually have in packets in the freezer.  I buy canned, chopped tomatoes by the case at Costco, have the herbs, have pasta, always have some onions and random veggies around to throw in.

Recipe:  Open up a bottle of red wine and pour yourself a glass.  Fry up a chopped onion, some chopped sweet pepper, maybe some 'shrooms or zucchini.  Toss in 1/2 pound sausage meat, ground beef, or whatever (if you're using faux meat, it should go in at the end.).  Once the meat is cooked, add a can of chopped tomatoes (the big one - 28 oz), a can of paste (the little one - 5 oz?), half the big can of water, some salt, herbs, a tbsp of sugar, maybe some hot pepper flakes if your family's cool with that.  Simmer, and have another glass of wine, and maybe a few nuts because wine on an empty stomach can be bad news.  Boil pasta, cut a chunk of parmesan off the costco-sized wedge in your fridge and pop it into the grater, and another one to have with the remains of your glass of wine.  You know how to do the rest.

If it's just me, toast and cheese. And maybe a glass of wine.

Recipe:  Cut two slices of homemade herb bread and pop into toaster.  While the bread is toasting, cut a large wedge of old cheddar and pour yourself a glass of red wine.  Butter the toast, take the toast, cheese, and wine into the living room and watch whatever you want to watch on TV because no-one else is home.

8. Do you sleep on your back, belly, or side?
I'm a flipper.  I start off on my side, but I think I rotate through all the options all night.
9. How do you feel about Tom Cruise?
I like his movies.  I don't like the abuse that gets thrown at him and his family.  But frankly, he wierds me out.
10. What books are in your “books to read” stack?
My stack is huge, but lets focus on the library books for which I have a deadline.  They are
